Humanity has a tendency to love a label. Every newspaper, NHS document, or documentary at the moment seems to be handing out new labels every week... but what if these labels are being used to limit us instead of supporting us to thrive and grow as individuals? Stick with me here while I throw this out there...this has been edited several times and may ruffle some feathers, however, it is written with an intention of love. *deep breath for both of us* When something isn't considered 'the norm' we label it. We stick a badge on a person or a place that says "THIS WORKS DIFFERENTLY". Now with this badge comes another level of expectations. Because the new badge has a huge list that comes with it also. 🤯 Why don't we change the environment that doesn't work for the person? Or why don't we screw the label and consider everyone as different and accept there are alternative ways for us all to work, live and play. My theory is that we - humanity will first immerse ourselves in as many labels as possible. It's a great way to find ourselves and understand how we function best. The TikTok generation loves a label and I can see why they are searching so hard for an identity. However my question today is...are labels helping us in the long run? Or are they hindering us into the next level of expectations and limiting beliefs? Are we becoming so fond of labels that we are using them as the reason why we cannot push ourselves? Why we cannot show up in a different way or maybe even use them as the reason why we must do something? Consider feathers ruffled with love. Are we becoming so fond of labels that we are using them as the reason why we cannot push ourselves? Why we cannot show up in a different way or maybe even use them as the reason why we must do something? Let me follow this up by saying I am only referring to my own experience and labels. I totally get that some labels can be useful and I know parents who often have to fight for labels for their children. Each of us has a path and I can only share what I see in mine. (I love you all) I've recently discovered I'm neurodivergent and most probably have some form of ADHD/Autism. I also already knew I was 5/1 Generator, an Aries with Scorpio moon and south node in.... and a North node in .... and that's before we get into all the other self-discoveries that drop into my awareness field over the years. Lists make me feel in control, my empathy normally overflows and causes my boat to sink when I am lacking boundaries...So let's just say I'm pretty self-aware. Some of this information about myself has saved me from patterns that go lifetime after lifetime. I am forever grateful for the impromptu text from a friend that explained the North and South node in my chart. This is written in my journal and will be copied over into the next as an important reminder. However the last few months I've started to wonder if some of these labels are supporting my journey or hindering them. Is it right for me to only do things that feel good? 🤔 or should I push myself a little into the uncomfortable so I can stretch my wings and grow? Should I only wait to be invited to things or occasionally kick-start a project on my own? Because let me tell you it's been a quiet year with not many invites. (It's O.K I'm laughing not crying). Can I really avoid zoom chats because they make me feel sick? I run an online business right!? 🤣 I think it's time we all look at our labels. Did we choose them or were they given to us? Are we attached to them healthily or are we rolling over to the label because it gives us a green card out of something we don't really want to do? Maybe it isn't the labels, maybe the world needs to become a little softer and we need to stop thinking that a label is who we are as a whole and is only a tiny slither of our being. That way we really move forward into a world that sees there is never one way of doing things and two souls are never entirely the same no matter how much we try and pigeonhole ourselves into a box. I love a journey of self-discovery and let me finish by saying no realization is a waste of time and energy. However, it is super important that we remember that labels got us into this mess in the first place and maybe it's time we loosen our grip on them a little and do things our own way without the need for a label to justify it. As for my labels... I'm working with them. I think of labels as like shoes. A new label is like breaking in a pair of new shoes. I'll wear them for a season, then I'll probably outgrow them and move on..but some are made to last and will be in the back of the wardrobe for years to come. Oceans of love Cx |
